Procrastination!
Oct. 11th, 2007 11:55 amThis is the last week before Mid Semester Break (don't get too excited, I get Monday off) so I've been writing a lot of papers and taking midterms. (They 're thinking about making mid semester break a week next year, hmph!) One of my midterms was delayed a week so I don't have to worry about that, but tomorrow is my Latin exam which I am a little freaked out about.
Other than that, I've slowly been seduced by Dr Merkel's love of Russian Literature and Culture. She is an expert on Russian lit, and I'm taking the Rogue's Progress: The Picaresque Novel, with her, so quite a few Russian novels have slipped into our syllabus. She is so enthusiastic, the class is really great. My other classes I have sort of mixed feelings about. My British Restoration class I don't really like. It's not terrible, but it's not terribly interesting to me. We read three or four Restoration comedy plays which are interesting, I enjoy reading the novels; but I am less than enthused about the poetry coming up. It's not that I don't like the literature, but I generally find it kind of boring. I'm also taking Modern British Literature with Dr Hipsky which I am really enjoying. Right now we're reading Ulysses ^_^. On a side note, I was taking to a professor about possible specialties in grad school, and she mentioned that I seemed (based on what little she knows about my capstone etc.) like I was primarily interested in Spanish medieval history, which I almost totally disagree with. So she asked me, what sorts of classes I have been taking etc. So I thought about it, and if anything there is a basis towards English literature and history of almost any period; I've taken The Making of Britain, Shakespeare and the Stage, the Modern Temper, Modern British Lit, Restoration Brit Lit, a class on Chaucer, British Images, and Women's Lit in Eng. 1100-1700.
In other news, I set up an appointment to do job training with Phone A Thon to get some extra money, however they cannot hire me because even though they are not work study, you are only allowed to work a certain number of hours for the campus total. :( The thing is, my Staap position is great but the AMRS Staap does not pay the same sort of money that other positions pay. Yes you're supposedly only working for three hours a week, but have you ever tried to put together a magazine by working only three hours a week? It just doesn't happen. I feel really lucky that I am gaining experience and was given this opportunity but I have bills to pay too...
Anyway. That's most of the stuff going on with me. I took the practice GRE Sat. so I should know whether this week how I did. fun fun.
Trivia fact of the day: I really should be studying for my exam right now.
